The chapel of the Saint: it was once the chapel of the castle,
which is now the town hall. It served as the burial place for the lords'
families until 1789. It was sacked during the upheavals of this period, but
the Renaissance-style statue of the Virgin Mary, made from the wood of a
fig tree, was saved by a parishioner.
The church and its bell-tower: above the entrace stands the ceramic statue of
Saint Alexandre, bishop and patron of the village. This church's structure corresponds
to the typical layout of the Romanesque church with three naves.
The chapel of Saint Joseph: it was built over the site of a former cemetery that
joined, on its southern edge, the parish church. |
| history |
Saint Alexandre, a 12th-century village, takes its name
from Saint Alexandre, the bishop who came to christianize the town. The
inhabitants decided to give his name to their village. |
