| Ceremonial hall of Guillaume de Piolenc - 1450 |

The beautiful Romanesque façade that faces
the rue Saint-Jacques is the second known state of this elegant hôtel,
which was progressively enlarged until the end of the Middle Ages. Around
1340, the king's magistrate dispensed justice in a hall whose sumptuously
painted framework remains perfectly preserved. In 1450, Guillaume de Piolenc
had two ceremonial halls built one on top of the other, and their painted
ceilings, as well as the decor on the walls of one of the rooms, have remained
intact to this day. They form an ensemble of remarkable rarity, which shows
the early influence of the Florentine Renaissance.
The collection of sacred art brings together the holdings of the municipal and
the regional museums. It strikes a balance between religious ethnography and
fine arts in its display of objects of worship, both public and private: sacerdotal
vestments from the 15th to the 20th centuries, metalwork and sacred objects,
religious paintings from the 15th and 17th centuries, a medical cabinet from
the Hôpital du Saint-Esprit, Nativity scenes, paperolles, and santons from
the 18th and 19th centuries.
